How to Get It Made as a Woman in Comedy

Women In Comedy is a non profit organization based in Chicago with a mission to “educate, empower, and connect powerful, ambitious, hilarious, and talented women in the comedy industry through resources that foster their professional development and advancement.”

An annual part of Women In Comedy programming is the Inside Jokes Comedy Conference, where guests network with other attendees, as well as hear from expert women who are already currently working in the comedy industry. The 2018 Chicago chapter conference will be held on June 29th from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Laugh Factory in Chicago. They will have a wide range of panelists who are already established and do various things in the industry such as write, perform, and more.

In addition to the Inside Jokes Conference, Women in Comedy hosts an accelerator program, open mic nights, and other fun, funny and helpful events and resources around Chicago. Read more recommendations about where to see live comedy on Chicago Rex.

Women in Comedy was founded in 2015 by Victoria Elena Nones, who is actually a comedian herself, and her entire organization is run by people who volunteer their time to “be the funny change they wish to see in the world.” They are a force in Chicago that truly wants to help women who are already a part of the comedy industry or who are aspiring to be by offering free or low cost events, resources, and education to all women who are seeking careers in that field. In addition to Chicago, Women in Comedy has chapters in New York, Seattle, Del Rey Beach, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C.
