Sell Online and Deliver Locally with Shopify
Updated June 26, 2020
Whether you are a restaurant or a shop, local delivery with Shopify makes it easy for your local customers to have their products/goods delivered right to their front door. With email updates letting them know when you're on your way, allows for a no-contact delivery, which will probably become the norm for a while. It’s quick and safe!
How it Works:
The customer places an order and chooses the Local Delivery option at checkout and pays online.
You will receive an email about the order and can begin preparing.
You go to your Order’s Local Delivery page and view the customer’s address and plan your delivery.
Let your customer know you are on your way when you leave.
Leave the package at their door.
You’re done. Your order is complete.
Setting Up Local Delivery:
First, you have to set-up a store with Shopify. If you haven’t done so already, our article here will help you get set up with a free 90-day trial. Once you have added your content, photos, and products to your page, you can easily set up the local delivery option with just a few clicks.
Go to Settings
Select Shipping and Delivery
Scroll down until you find Local Delivery
Your location will be highlighted in gray that says “Doesn’t offer delivery”
Click Manage and enable local delivery
You will now be at your Local Delivery Page
Check the box that says “This location offers local delivery”
Define your Delivery Perimeters by radius or zipcodes (meaning how far of a distance you will travel to deliver orders)
Set your minimum order price for customers to be eligible for delivery
Choose your delivery fee
Save
Once you have set up your local delivery options, customers within your delivery radius, and minimum order requirement will be able to select this option at checkout. They will also be able to provide their own delivery instructions so that it is as seamless as possible for everyone involved.
Preparing Orders for Local Delivery
When an order comes through, you will get an email from Shopify. You can go to your Orders page to see the list of orders you have and selecting Local Delivery will filter them to be shown at the top.
Throughout your packaging and preparing process, you can update your customers by selecting these options:
Prepare Delivery
Ready for Delivery
Delivered
Once you are ready to deliver and it has been marked as Ready for Delivery, download the Shopify Mobile app. From here, you can to Orders and scroll down to select Local Delivery and can then View all. It will show you your customer’s address and any instructions they provided. Once you select their address, a map will open with directions and you can start heading towards them. After you delivered their item, be sure to change the status to Delivered!
